New website and bonfires
I updated my website, and switched to a new domain name. If you’re reading this the new website should be working and the blog feeds have been updated. My main page is now http://www.rjbphoto.com, it has a little slideshow of my favorite photos. I tried to make something a little more professional looking, taking advantage of all the benefits I’ve gained from using Smugmug over the years. I like that it’s a place that I can put project galleries up in the future.
In other news here are some photos from the 2009 homecoming bonfire at The University of Tulsa. Prior to the event I got to chat with a photographer from EPSN. Even though our game wasn’t televised I think he said that they sent him out to take shots for future use. Thats pretty cool, and it was fun to talk about gear with a professional. I think I found his photos based on Flickr geotagging but I’m not totally sure if it was him.
I really wanted to take a better photo than that one the school has been using for the past few years. Togetherness, comradeship and whatsit. I really liked that I got Peggy and Steadman Upham in a couple of the photos. No one was standing next to them so I tried to incorporate them into the shot. Focusing in the dark was harder than I expected. And metering fire is a pain. Live preview worked wonders and I need to keep that in mind for the future.
I tried to make it out to the cyclocross event this past weekend but I arrived too late. I managed to take one photo but its pretty terrible. Out of focus, poor positioning, distracting foreground object, etc. etc. etc. Just plain crap. I hope to make up for it this weekend as there are other cyclocross events coming up.

This is what I get for trying to use my cheap tiltshift lens when I’m not ready for it. Lesson learned.
